In Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM), we diagnose pain in the joints a little differently than your Rheumatologist does. If joints are cold to the touch and the pain is worse when the weather is cold, then we often warm the joints up to relieve the pain, increase blood flow and speed healing. If the pain moves from joint to joint, then we say that this is similar to the wind blowing and we use points that help to expel wind from your body. If a joint is hot and swollen, then we need to clear the heat from the joint (or calm the inflammation). Whenever there is pain, AOM says that the channels are not open. We use the 14 meridians by diagnosing what meridian the pain is on and using points that are shown to help that joint to feel better and points that are around the point to make the stuck energy flow through smoothly again.

An Article Entitled: Acupuncture treatment for chronic knee pain: a systematic review.
COMMENT ON THE LINKS:
Above are two links for studies involving how effective acupuncture is at treating chronic knee pain. Interestingly, the first study found that while the joint function was better at eight weeks and several acupuncture treatments, it was at the end of 12 weeks and 6 treatments that other measures such as pain and the number of swollen and painful joints had really gone down. Acupuncture has an accumulative effect on the body. After the first, or second, or third treatment, you should be experiencing some relief, but as the benefits of the acupuncture accumulate, you will really feel the difference.
PATIENT TESTIMONIAL:
I am 49 years old and was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis over 18 years ago. It's in almost every joint in my body. I have some good days and some bad. Medication helps sometimes, but most meds
create bad side effects. I was introduced to Tina Laue, L.Ac. by my mother-in-law. The acupuncture and herbs have helped tremendously. I am now able to lift my right arm straight into the air as where before
I couldn't. My hips and knees are now able to bend without the sharp pains running through them. I recommend Tina to others with similar problems. It has also helped heal up my Psoriasis on my hand, knees and
feet.
~Rick Springer
I've been seeing Rick for five months now. I wish I could have filmed the moment when he was raising his arm up and down, over and over and grinning!! He was so excited.
