Saving Your Health from Summer Fun

Going on vacation is much needed and fun. I love to call a vacation a source of good stress.
It takes time and energy to remember everything, organize everything, and pack which can cause its own problems. You get to go on vacation at the end of it, but it’s stressful getting there!
Your body buffers good and bad stress the same way. Knowing how to reduce emotional and physical stress from summer’s unique problems lets you keep having fun without doing too much damage to your health.

One of the most important ways to protect your body from stress, especially during the summer, is also one of the most unexpected. It’s crucial that you make sure you get enough calcium.
Calcium is one of the main electrolytes, which also include magnesium, sodium, and potassium. Calcium is special though because when you release cortisol from stress, it triggers calcium to flow into your tissues from your diet or your bones.
If you’re not getting enough calcium in your diet, your body has no choice but to suck it away from your bones, making them weaker. Getting extra vitamin D from the summer sun helps lock calcium into your bones, but then your tissues won’t get the calcium they need.

What should you do to make sure both your bones and tissues have enough calcium? Eat plenty of foods that are rich in calcium like leafy greens, molasses, wheat germ, sesame seeds, and dairy. Other foods like healthy fats including olive oil, sunflower seeds, hummus, and sesame seeds help bring calcium to your tissues.
If you’re low on calcium, one big sign to look out for is getting sunburnt easily. This indicates low tissue calcium (yes even if you have fair skin and have always sunburned). One of my friends once asked me if I was wearing white nylons in the summer due to my fair skin.
To combat sunburn and low calcium, I add two calcium lactate and Cataplex F supplements. I also tell my food loving clients to take leafy greens with a healthy oil and vinegar dressing after being in the sun to prevent sunburn.

Keep the treats and alcohol to a reasonable level. The older you get, the more likely you are to suffer from overindulging and need help recovering from it.
Traveling is better with natural remedies to help. Channel Flow or herbal ibuprofen helps with aches and pains and headaches, plasters help with aches and pains and strained muscles, Microgard Plus helps with indigestion, and Cold Quell or Cold Away help if you get sick on the road and can be taken as start to feel off to help prevent getting sick. Ask me to drop these products into your Fullscript cart or drop ship them to your home at your next appointment.
Keep an eye on your problem spots. Come in before they flare up. Schedule an appointment as regularly as possible to help your body stay at peak health, so you can enjoy your vacation instead of nursing your knee, shoulder, or ankles.

Don’t be afraid to make sporadic acupuncture appointments in the summer. Remember that good, better, and best are meant to work with your busy and hectic schedules.
Let me know what you need and what you can fit into your schedule, and we’ll find an appointment time that works for you. With online scheduling and text messaging, it’s easy to book same day appointments.
